Horror YouTuber Markiplier Is Set To Direct And Star In Horror Adaptation 'Iron Lung'

Youtube content creator Mark Fischbach, better known by his internet name Markiplier, has joined the production team for the movie adaptation of one of 2022’s best games, Iron Lung. The game, which the movie will share the name of, is a top-rated horror/suspense game. Markiplier will participate not only in the production part of the project but has also invested on the financial side. He is self-financing the movie adaptation according to Deadline.
Markiplier joins the movie world with a video game hit. The game was developed by creator David Szymanski, who was also responsible for other titles like Dusk ‘82, Dusk, and the Dread X collection. Szymanski’s projects are retro-looking, but do not feel like something from the past. His games' simplistic yet pleasing aesthetics could be a great addition to the silver screen as a top YouTuber like Markiplier also gets involved in it. Per Deadline, Markiplier was one of the most well-payed Youtubers, hitting the eleventh position in Forbes's “top creators of 2022” list as well.

Iron Lung’s plot could potentially help movie adaptations of video games that have been happening for the past year. Of course, as major cult classics like Sonic and Mario Bros. stroke major success with the general public, Markiplier’s project could capitalize on two different markets that, if combined, should be big for him. According to Vice, Iron Lung will likely give the public and its players some claustrophobic vibes, making out that pressure gets as high as at the bottom of the ocean:

“Set in an ocean of blood on an alien moon in the wake of the “Quiet Rapture," an event which saw the disappearance of every lifeform in the universe with the exception of people living on autonomous space stations, Iron Lung focuses on a convict who has been sent to investigate the blood ocean in a submarine. The ship is not built for this depth, and it will almost certainly break underneath the pressure. To prevent an early collapse, the ship’s only window has been barricaded, and you are forced to navigate by sensors alone, aided by an exterior, single-shot camera. Your goal is to photograph several points of interest before your ship implodes.”
The movie is still pretty much an unknown quantity right now. As of now, Markiplier joins a very limited team in this project. As per IMDB, Iron Lung game creator David Szymanski will have a cameo. Caroline Kaplan (The Plot Against America, Proof) is also cast in the movie, but no character name has been revealed so far. No date or time window has been given for the release, so it might be a while.
