Holly Hunter Is Joining 'Star Trek: Starfleet Academy'
There’s been a new development for the upcoming Star Trek: Starfleet Academy series. It’s been announced that Holly Hunter, known for Batman v Superman and The Incredibles, is cast as the lead in Starfleet Academy. Hunter will be playing the chancellor of the Academy, a Starfleet Captain who oversees the newest cadets joining the Starfleet ranks.
It was previously announced that Starfleet Academy will take place during the 32nd century, the same era as Star Trek: Discovery seasons 3-5. Thanks to the season four premiere of Discovery, we know that the Starfleet Academy was newly established in 3190, over a century after its initial closure. It’s likely to be this year that the newest Star Trek series will begin to showcase the first class of the reopened Academy.

Filming for Starfleet Academy begins this summer in Toronto, Canada. Alex Kurtzman and Noga Landau (Nancy Drew) lead the team as co-showrunners and the first episode is written by Gaia Violo (Absentia). The Paramount+ series is produced by CBS Studios, with Secret Hideout and Roddenberry Entertainment. There has not been any release date announced yet, but there’s a possibility that that announcement will be made during San Diego Comic-Con later this summer.
