Henry Cavill has confirmed that he will be returning as Superman. Having waited until the weekend after the film’s release to make the announcement on his Instagram account, Cavill stated that he is officially back as Superman, and that the cameo in Black Adam’s post-credits scene was just “a very small taste of things to come.” He also promised that fans’ patience and enthusiasm would be rewarded.

After his first appearance in 2013’s Man of Steel, Cavill has portrayed the Son of Krypton in a number of other DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films. When Zack Snyder parted ways with Warner Bros., so did his creative vision for Superman within the DCEU. As of last year, the creative vision behind the DCEU saw some changes, bringing in a more connected universe of stories while keeping to the same diverse approach to individual films.

Black Adam is said to be the start of this new creative vision, with Cavill’s cameo as Superman confirming his return in the Man of Steel sequel. Since his last portrayal as Superman, Cavill has taken starring roles in The Witcher and Enola Holmes. While the Man of Steel sequel is still in the early stages of development. With this promise of interconnectivity within the DCEU, it is possible that Cavill takes on the role of Superman in other films in the franchise.
