Fans of old classic cartoons were in for a shock when they logged into their HBO Max accounts at the start of the day. All 225 Looney Tunes shorts made between 1930 and 1949 were deleted, as were seasons 4-6 of The Flintstones, which totaled 78 episodes, leaving only the first three seasons of the classic cartoon. This is due to a deal between HBO Max and Warner Bros expiring at the end of 2022 and not being renewed. It is currently unknown if either show will be picked up by another streaming network, and reports conflict as to whether or not these properties will return to HBO Max.

This isn’t the first time that HBO Max has cut content for the sake of cutting costs. Several HBO original or exclusive titles, including Minx and The Nevers, and 200 hundred episodes of the young children’s show Sesame Street have been removed. HBO Max has also recently announced that other shows, including WestworldRaised by WolvesFBoy IslandLegendaryFinding Magic MikeHead of the Class, and The Time Traveler’s Wife, have been taken off the platform in order to license them to other streaming platforms.
