This past April Discovery and WarnerMedia merged to create a new company called Warner Bros. Discovery. The New CEO David Zaslav was tasked with turning around the struggling business. This has led to projects like Batgirl being canceled. This appears to be just the beginning of the shakeups being done at the new company.

In August, thirty-six shows were removed from HBO Max without much notice to any of the teams behind them. Following the decision, one creator said “The whole thing is just very confusing, and there hasn’t been much outreach to anybody.” OK K.O.! creator Ian Jones-Quartey also stated that “we are not sure how the show being available to people was a problem in any way.”

The removal of many animated shows has led to discussion about the future of streaming and animation. The creator of Infinity Train Owen Dennis stated that “it makes it seem as though all of this is much more impermanent than fans and creators of this kind of art were led to believe”. Of concern was that Infinity Train’s social media posts and even the original Youtube pilot vanished when the show was removed. Following the removal of these shows, Warner Bros. Discovery lost $20 billion in market cap.
