Grant Gustin Talks About The End Of The CW's 'The Flash' And Nine Years As The Titular Hero
The end of an era has come as The Flash called for a wrap one final time. This show, stretching nearly a decade, cemented the Arrowverse as a multi-show interconnected universe. The speedster himself, Grant Gustin, talked about the near-decade run of The Flash with Entertainment Weekly.
Gustin commented on the scope of the Universe his show was within, "When it came to the greater Arrowverse, the scale of it was something that was really lost on me for the majority of the run.” The ultimate impact of The Flash and the greater Arrowverse was unique and impactful, and hard to grasp when you’re in the moment. Gustin continued, “It's something I won't fully understand or appreciate for years and years and years, to see what the impact that Greg Berlanti and [executive producer] Marc Guggenheim and all of these guys were able to have on the TV landscape. It was unlike anything that had ever been attempted in television."

In regards to ending the series, Gustin explained, "It just felt like time. A lot of people wanted us to get to 10 seasons, but in my mind we did 10 years — it was 2013 when I was cast as Barry Allen, and we finished in 2023. We had done everything we needed to do, the characters were in a good place, and we had reached the conclusion."
The future isn’t over for his character: convention appearances lay in his future. "We're still talking Flash, I'm still going to get to meet The Flash fans, and it's a new chapter of The Flash era now, so I don't think it's ever really going to end," he explained. With the time freed post-filming, there will be plenty of time to hold meet-and-greet events and other appearances in the future. Gustin is still The Flash, he even has the ring still.
The Flash wrapped up its ninth season on May 24, 2023. Titled A New World, the episode saw the conclusion of one of the largest challenges the team had faced to that point. The finale can be streamed on The CW app.
