George R.R. Martin Wants To Build An MCU Style Universe For 'Game Of Thrones'

George R.R. Martin

George R R Martin, the celebrated creator of Game of Thrones series has said that he would like a larger on-screen universe, similar to Marvel or Star Wars. It’s not hard to imagine more shows filling the gaps left by the original series, whether that is fleshing out the much-maligned last season or bringing the extensive back story to life.

It’s not the first time the author of A Song of Ice And Fire has voiced his wish for a greater presence for his creation. Martin was open in his criticism of the way Game of Thrones wrapped up, saying that he thought Daenerys’ fall needed twelve or thirteen seasons. Although Martin acted as executive producer on the show, his role diminished in the later seasons when he returned to writing. House of The Dragon has just dropped to rave reviews, and George RR Martin is supposedly back in the driving seat.

Although the series cost HBO Max 200 million, the franchise is a sure-fire ratings winner. It’s no surprise there are a host of spin-offs in the works based on Martin’s work, including an as-of-yet untitled Jon Snow series which has fans excited. If all of the rumors are true, then the franchise could easily compete with Star Wars or Marvel in regards to its scope.

But will the need for more source material give Martin cause to finish Winds of Winter, the book that fans have been waiting over a decade? That’s the real question.
