Fans have been waiting for Winds of Winter for twelve years, and according to George R.R Martin, speaking on a live stream back in October he has 75% finished the next instalment of the Game of Thrones series. There have been rumors a-plenty about the publication date of this book, with many speculating that it will be released this year or into 2024. Realistically, it may be a long time before we see the book hit stores. George R. R. Martin is not known to be terribly prolific and can only put words down when the muse hits. When he was interviewed by filmmaker Kevin Smith four months ago, the author confessed that he ‘doesn’t have a lot of good days writing Winds of Winter.’

He has also been kept busy helping HBO adapt his material for the Jon Snow spin-off, although reportedly this is one of the shows that has been hit hard by the SAG-AFTRA Strike. However, another one of his projects, The House of The Dragon Season 2 is still in production and that will no doubt also be taking some of his attention away from Winds of Winter.

But George R.R Martin has told fans that he expects Winds of Winter to be the longest book he has penned so far. When it arrives it should be worth the wait.
