George R.R Martin says he has finished Winds of Winter, the long-awaited sixth novel in A Song of Fire and Ice series. The author let the information slip at a book signing where he made the off-the-cuff remark to fans and an international reporter. When asked about Winds of Winter, George R.R Martin said,

“Turns out I just needed to sit down with a pint of coffee, turn on the laptop, and write the darn thing. The last few chapters just flew out of me. Handed the pages to my agent last week. It’s supposed to be hush-hush, but I guess the dragon is out of the bag now.”

Fans waiting in line were delighted by the news, although TikTok videos and Reddit posts reporting George.R.R Martin’s words are being met with glee and skeptism.

Martin was tight-lipped about the contents of Winds of Winter, but he did give a cryptic hint. “I’m not sticking with the television ending. It was a great show, and they did what they had to do, but I’ve still got a prophecy to fulfil, and I don’t want to shortchange the readers on that.”

George R. R. Martin could be referring to the original prediction of the threat in the North. But there is also the prophesy of the stallion that mounts the world that could come into play. Fans will be excited to read where this story goes, and if HBO buys the rights. The last Game of Thrones novel was released in 2011, so it’s been a long wait.

There’s no word yet on the release schedule, as it appears this info was pre-emptively leaked. Martin’s agent would not confirm any details other than they are in current negotiations with Bantham Books.
