FX Series 'The Old Man' Shuts Down Season 2 Production In The Midst Of Writer's Strike
As many know, the writer’s strike has halted countless shows and other productions. With actors joining the protest in solidarity with the writers who provide them with their material, the strike shows that it is a force to be reckoned with. Among the scores of television shows shut down due to the strike, is the FX series “The Old Man” starring Jeff Bridges. While episode 204 was completed, the original plan for producers was to film up until episode 205 with five completed scripts at the helm. Unfortunately, production has been “suspended” as rewrites of current scripts were recommended as the writer’s strike began to take place.
According to Nellie Andreeva of Deadline, production “will resume sometime after the WGA work stoppage is over.” When this will occur remains to be seen. “The Old Man”, based on Thomas Perry’s bestselling book, follows Dan Chase (Bridges) who absconded from the CIA decades ago and has been living off the grid since. When an assassin arrives and targets Chase, the former CIA operative learns that “to ensure his future he now must reconcile his past.”

Given that the second-season renewal is barely a year old and Jeff Bridges recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, the shutdown of production has the potential to result in the overall show ceasing. With timing for the second season already depending on “availability and other factors”, it’s unknown if Jeff Bridges and the rest of his cast and crew family will be able to return to get “back on [their] feet” and be “ready for action.” Time will tell what the writer’s strike will bring.
