Fans of the Friday the 13th franchise finally have something to celebrate! Fans have been begging for new Jason Voorhees content since the release of Freddy Vs Jason in 2003 and then the 2009 reboot, but due to legal issues, have been denied this request. According to Variety, a Friday the 13th prequel has been officially given a “straight-to-series” order from Peacock

The prequel series is currently titled Crystal Lake, but all plot and possible casting details are being kept under wraps for the time being. Bryan Fuller is currently slated to write the series and will also be featured as showrunner and executive producer. Victor Miller, the man responsible for writing the first Friday the 13th film back in 1980, has signed onto the project as an executive producer along with Marc Toberoff and Rob Barsamian. Miller and Barsamian’s involvement in the project means that most content from the original film will be available to be used in the prequel series despite the legal battles that have been surrounding the film. A24 is also slated to produce and act as the studio behind the series.
