35 years after the supernatural being of vengeance, The Crow, was introduced to comic book readers and 29 years after the first ill-fated attempt to bring the character to the big screen in The Crow, Hollywood is taking another stab at bringing the character to life on screen. The first film was released in 1994, under tragic circumstances, with the accidental shooting death of lead actor Brandon Lee during filming. Lee’s ex-fiance permitted the film to be completed despite the untimely death of Lee. The latest version, tentatively set to release in June of this year, will feature actor Bill Skarsgard (It, It Chapter 2) in the titular role, and the first trailer featuring him as The Crow has just debuted:

According to the official synopsis: Soulmates Eric Draven (Skarsgård) and Shelly Webster (FKA twigs) are brutally murdered when the demons of her dark past catch up with them. Given the chance to save his true love by sacrificing himself, Eric sets out to seek merciless revenge on their killers, traversing the worlds of the living and the dead to put the wrong things right.

The trailer for The Crow, which is being directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) promises a very intense and violent film. In addition to Skarsgard, the film stars Danny Huston, Isabella Wei, Laura Birn, Sami Bouajila, and Jordan Bolger. The film is a complete reboot, ignoring the 1994 film and any subsequent releases, and draws heavily on James O'Barr's original graphic novel.

The memory of the first film and the late Brandon Lee still weighs heavily on this new film. Sanders has been quoted as saying that he always kept the tragic circumstances of the first film in mind while making the film, however, he believes that he has made a film that Lee would have been proud of. The film was originally set to be released on June 7, 2024, however, the current release schedule states that it is “coming soon”.
