First Trailer For New Season Of 'Futurama' Has Been Released By Hulu
It’s been nearly a decade since the hit series, Futurama, ended. While it’s one of brilliant animator Matt Groening’s creations, it has not enjoyed the ceaseless run that The Simpsons has (it’s been running since 1989). Since the show’s ending, Groening has gone on to create another animated series, Disenchantment, this time on Netflix. Still, the absence of Futurama was keenly felt by fans the world over.
That longing is about to end. On July 24, Hulu will be the new home of the revival of the series as it starts its eighth season. The occasion was marked the other day by the release of the official trailer. The trailer is what you would expect from the show, with lots of little highlights of the zany antics and stories that made the show popular. Several scenes suggest a lot of references to current events, from Covid-19, cryptocurrency, West World, and Dune. It also seems to address the final episode of the seventh season from 2013, with Professor Farnsworth referencing some sort of time issue while also seeing Leela and Fry’s relationship revived.
Futurama’s revival was announced back in February of last year for a run of 20 episodes, and it was met with widespread excitement. That is until fans found out that John DiMaggio was not going to return with the rest of the voice cast. It turned out that DiMaggio was not returning due to his holdout over better pay for the cast. Eventually, he announced he would return to voice Bender, though he was unsuccessful in raising the cast's pay.
Futurama returns to television on Hulu on July 24.
