Emily Blunt Responds To Fantastic Four Rumors About Husband John Krasinski & Herself

Emily Blunt has to be one of the most talented actresses out there today. Her filmography is quite impressive, from the likes of Edge to Tomorrow, Looper,  Sicario, The Adjustment Bureau, A Quiet Place, and even the divisive Mary Poppins Returns. Not only are they critically and financially successful, but many directors are lining up to work with her. But one powerhouse film studio has been trying to work with her for at least a decade.

In the late 2000s, Marvel Studios approached Blunt about being Black Widow for the MCU starting with Iron Man 2. But she declined due to a scheduling conflict. When the studio later regained the film rights to the Fantastic Four, many fans speculated and even came up with impressive fan art of Blunt and her husband, actor John Krasinski, as Mr. Fantastic and Invisible Woman. Unfortunately, Blunt had to shoot down a rumor to break the hearts of many film fans out there.

Recently, on The Howard Stern Show, Emily Blunt denied that she and her husband were being approached for the Fantastic Four reboot.

“That is fan-casting. No one has received a phone call. That’s just people saying, ‘Wouldn’t that be great?’"

Blunt even admitted that she’s not a fan of superheroes at all.

“It’s not that it’s beneath me. I love Iron Man and when I got offered Black Widow I was obsessed with Iron Man. I wanted to work with Robert Downey Jr.—it would’ve been amazing … but I don’t know if superhero movies are for me. They’re not up my alley. I don’t like them. I really don’t.”

She gets frank about the over saturation of on-screen comic book properties, although saying that she would still be "interested" in being a superhero if the character was "really cool":

“It’s been exhausted. We are inundated—it’s not only all the movies, it’s the endless TV shows as well. It’s not to say that I’d never want to play one, it would just have to be something so cool and like a really cool character, and then I’d be interested."

There has been a reason why so many people wanted Krasinski and Blunt to be the first couple of Marvel: they played a married couple in a very successful film with the first A Quiet Place. Hypothetically, due to NDA's, it's possible they could have been cast and they had to deny it until an official announcement. Remember, some actors that appeared in Marvel Studios films had to deny their casting at first before Disney and Marvel made it official. It's a slim chance.

But we’ll see what happens in the future.

A Quiet Place II will be in theatres on May 28, 2021, and the Fantastic Four reboot will be in theaters in 2023.
