Emilia Clark Speaks About Her Possible Role In Lando Calrissian Disney+ Show
Solo: A Star Wars Story is a film that did not quite succeed at the box office despite getting its good share of fans. Though it was advertised as a standalone, it left some threads dangling. One of these threads pertains to Qi'ra, Han's lover from the Corellian underworld who becomes part of Crimson Dawn and eventually takes Dryden Vos' place. The message from Maul in which he tells her to meet him on Dathomir sparked many imaginations. And now, we are seeing Qi'ra in the War of the Bounty Hunters comic book crossover, in which she has obtained the frozen Han Solo (between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi) and intends to sell him to the highest bidder in order to amass more power for Crimson Dawn.
More recently, Qi'ra appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. The host, Josh Horowitz, mentioned how Solo has been getting more positive reception over time. Clarke's response was the following:
“That makes me so happy because… I loved Qi’ra. Loved her, really really did. I loved Han, I loved the story, I loved the people, I loved the experience. It was one of those ones where you know if you know too much about a celebrity, and you go and watch that movie and you’re just thinking about how many kids Angelina Jolie has? And I feel like our movie is that. Everyone went in knowing what our dirty laundry looked like. And you couldn’t separate that gossip from the overall experience, but I’m so over the moon that people are posthumously enjoying it.”
Another possible place where fans have been speculating that Qi'ra could pop up is the Lando series that was announced last December. While no casting has been announced, the safe bet is that the series would focus primarily on the young version of Lando Calrissian who was portrayed by Donald Glover. On the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Clarke was asked whether she had heard anything about a possible return of her character on the Lando series. Her response was the following:
“I’ve had nothing. […] Absolutely nothing. But a ‘Lando’ show makes so much sense, give that man his own show! Yes!”
While Emilia Clarke has not heard anything, it is possible that she has not heard anything yet. Sure, for now, it is probably safe to assume that she does not have a role in the Lando series, especially given that Lucasfilm is letting Marvel depict her in an era that's almost certainly beyond when the series would take place. However, the Lando series seems to be so early in development that anything can happen at this point. They may not necessarily have all the pieces in place yet. Plus, the franchise is no stranger to telling a character's story out of order. Take Darth Maul, for example, who returned for The Clone Wars, then died in Rebels, then had a cameo earlier in the timeline via Solo, and then was shown even earlier in the timeline in the final season of The Clone Wars.
For now, nothing will really be confirmed until we see what the upcoming content has in store for the fans. With there being many upcoming Star Wars projects, we are bound for some surprises. Whether or not Qi'ra is one of them remains to be seen. Some speculate that she could appear in a future season of The Book of Boba Fett, which could perhaps be fitting. But again, it is all a waiting game for now.
