Bethesda Softworks is a well-known video game publisher with several projects in the works. Amid the news surrounding their newest IP Starfield, something recently dropped for Elder Scrolls VI, the next installment for the series. Pete Hines, Bethesda’s head of publishing, gave a status update for the game, confirming its development status!

Elder Scrolls VI was first confirmed in 2018 with little news since, making this update highly anticipated. When asked whether its status remained in pre-production, Hines confirmed the current state of the game, stating (via IGN), “No. It's in development, but it's in early development.” With the plate Bethesda has lined up and the epic scale the previous Elder Scrolls installments presented, the next game hovering in early development makes sense.

The publishing head reaffirmed the studio’s commitment to the upcoming new IP, explaining, “We have put all of our studio's focus on making this game the best it can be.” He continued, “And yes, there are people working on The Elder Scrolls 6, but this is what the studio has focused on. So no, you are not going to hear soon about The Elder Scrolls 6. Starfield is our focus for now, and it's going to remain our priority for a while before we talk about anything else.”

Any sort of release window has yet to be announced. The current plan is for Elder Scrolls VI to be available on PC and Xbox. In the meantime, Bethesda’s upcoming game Starfield hits the marketplace on September 6, 2023, for PC and Xbox Series X|S. A popular previous installment to the Elder Scrolls IP, Skyrim, is available on many platforms, including PC, Xbox 360, and several PlayStation consoles.
