Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness poster

Rejoice, true believers! The Disney+ release date for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been revealed. Very soon, the adventure of Dr. Strange, America Chavez, and Wong as they face off against the Scarlet Witch will premiere on the small screen. From the comfort of the couch, MCU fans will be able to transcend dimensions and delve deep into the multiverse later this month.

Mark your calendars for June 22nd, when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be available for streaming on Disney+. If you don't already have a subscription, make this your reason to do so. Sam Raimi makes his triumphant directorial return to Marvel in this cosmic horror story. Upon appearing in the main MCU universe, America Chavez enlists the help of Dr. Strange and Wong to get her to safety from the evil forces chasing her through the multiverse. Feeling this is beyond his expertise, Dr. Strange goes to Wanda Maximoff in an attempt to join forces and save the girl. While he doesn't get the answer he wants, he is instead confronted with the answer he needed. Following the tragic end of Wanda Vision, Wanda Maximoff is attempting to be reunited with her children by any means necessary. Even if it means sacrificing the Multiverse hopping America Chavez.

The movie is currently sitting at over $880 million at the global box office. Beating DC's latest release, The Batman, by over $110 million, and the first Doctor Strange by $203 million, this film has been yet another financial hit for the MCU. While comic book films (except Morbius) have seemed to be the exception, many have not yet re-embraced the theater-going experience so it will be fascinating to see the streaming numbers that follow its release. If you somehow missed the first one, Doctor Strange is already streaming on Disney+, and Spider-Man: No Way Home can be purchased online or in stores.

Spider-Man and Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been a moderate critical success. With a 74% critic score and 86% viewer score, it's not the perfect film that many people expected. Expectations can often overshadow what a project ends up being. Going into this with an open mind will make the viewing experience all that much more enjoyable. It is not a cameo fest, bent on cramming every character of Marvel's early outings into a single film, but it is an interesting take on how the multiverse works and exists.

Loki gave viewers an idea of the order surrounding the multiverse. This film shows just how chaotic it truly can be. Without the TVA at every turn, it leads to an infinite amount of possibilities as the characters jump practically freely throughout the multiverse. Whether or not this movie will play a part in Loki season 2 is unknown, but seems to be a good jumping off point for it and gives a slight insight into how lax the TVA may have become after season 1's finale.

Doctor Strange

Disney+ releases tend to also include an extras section that includes deleted scenes, alternate takes, etc. Hopefully, this movie is no exception. The fast pacing implies that a lot was left on the cutting room floor. Even Sam Raimi has commented to say that many scenes were left out to make the film flow easier and avoid an R rating. In an interview with Collider, Raimi revealed that the original cut was two hours and forty minutes, as opposed to the two-hour and five-minute version we saw in theaters. He does expect a few scenes to be released in the blu ray editions. Hopefully, we'll see a few of those scenes in the extras section of the movie on streaming. While a director's cut would be nice, it hasn't been the MCU's style to do such with their movies.

While this film may not have been what everyone expected, it certainly checked most of the boxes and shouldn't be given a passing glance. Not only does it explore more of the multiverse, but it also does so with fast-paced action and a gripping story. Be sure to stream Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on June 22nd on Disney+.
