New Footage Released ‘For Doctor Strange And The Multiverse Of Madness’
As a preamble to the highly anticipated Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, scheduled to hit theaters on May 6, 2022, Marvel has recently released a new featurette showing brand-new images from the upcoming fantastical movie. Directed by Samuel M. Raimi, the Doctor Strange sequel reunites the cast from the first movie including Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer), Benedict Wong (Wong), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Mordo), as well as Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch), and the newcomer Xochitl Gomez (America Chavez). In this new MCU adventure, we will be seeing Strange’s foray into the Multiverse after the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. These new shots give us new insight into what could possibly happen in this sequel.
In these first images, we can see Defender Strange (the new Doctor Strange variant) and America Chavez running away from this demonic ribbon monster in this new and unknown realm. By logic, we could fathom that the monster defeats the Strange’s variant at the end of this sequence, and Chavez portals herself back to our main Strange’s universe.
RELATED:
Remember the shot of the unconscious and disfigured Defender Strange whirling, into a star-shaped portal? When Chavez arrives in New York, she is no longer with Defender Strange. Chances are that she sends him into a random universe out of panic.
New images are hinting at the Scarlet Witch in a possible villainous role in this sequel. Wanda Maximoff's variant looks more threatening than ever covered in blood in these new shots. Note how she makes her famous bending and head tilting while she is shielding herself from an energy beam powered by a supposedly Captain Marvel Variant. We can notice the yellow color highly dominating the red color from Wanda's chaos magic. Captain Marvel is definitely giving Scarlet Witch a run for her money.
Following this idea, we can see the Scarlet Witch in the next still trapped in what appears to be the mirror dimension, which is one of Strange's most used spells. We could only assume that Strange is trying to contain the mad witch during the Kamar-Taj fight. We can see how she is surprised by one of her blasts rebounding on the shards of this mirror prison as she might not be familiar with that kind of magic.
Spider-Man: No Way Home reveals that Wong had become the Sorcerer Supreme due to Strange being blipped and gone for 5 years at the end of the events of Avengers: Infinity War. Now we see him taking on more responsibilities in his new role. Here, we can see him meeting with other Masters of Kamar-Taj.
Becoming the Sorcerer Supreme has made Wong more invaluable in the MCU. The stakes have never been higher for him. Marvel's marketing of the movie has shown Wong in various dangerous situations like fighting Gargantos in New York and going up against Scarlet Witch. In this footage, we can see a worried Wong standing on the ledge of a snowy mountain with a magical weapon in his hand.
Finally, we can only appreciate the darker tones in this new sequel. After all, Sam Raimi is known for directing and producing horror films like Evil Dead 1 and 2, and Army of Darkness, among others. This simple image of Chavez reacting to the candles being snuffed out by a puff of air gives us a taste of the horror that we are about to experience for the first time in the MCU.
In this next shot, Strange, Wong, Chavez, and Master Hamir brace themselves for the mysterious threat as the camera approaches them while tilting slightly. What is this unseen foe that is slowly heading for them?
Check out the exclusive featurette for yourself and listen to the commentary by the actors and director Sam Raimi. This behind-the-scene sneak preview promises great things to come when Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released on May 6, 2022.
