Does This 'Leaked' Trailer Prove A Knights Of Ren Project Is Coming?
Anyone with even a passing interest in Star Wars projects will be well aware that the secrecy around them is phenomenal. There are many interviews with cast and crew members where they have shared information on how secrets are maintained and the lengths that Disney/Lucasfilm will go to maintain that secrecy.
Even when projects are announced, there is often scant information available in the public domain to expand on plot, story, timeline, or casting. Good examples of this are Obi-Wan Kenobi, Andor, The Acolyte, and Ahsoka shows made for Disney+. The only information that we have now is what Disney/Lucasfilm wants us to know.

Disney/Lucasfilm usually has no issue declaring what projects they have in the works over the next few years. Most of these are revealed during large-scale press events. However, the odd projects sneak through, like the Tales Of The Jedi, whose logo appeared on a Lucasfilm corporate gift last Christmas. In addition, the internet is currently buzzing with the rumor of an upcoming Knights Of Ren project based on a "leaked" trailer that has appeared online.
When the Knights Of Ren made their first appearance in The Force Awakens, they were shrouded in mystery. However, they looked really cool and had fans clamoring to see more of them. Sadly they were woefully under-utilized in the sequel trilogy with only brief appearances and no real character or story development around them. However, it was a different story in the printed media world, making many appearances in novels and comics. The Force Awakens Visual Dictionary gave some background information and paved the way for more adventures; they had a much more prominent role and story presented in The Rise Of Kylo Ren four-part comic series, which really put some flesh on the bones.
Given how little we saw of them in the sequel trilogy and what was done with them in the comics and novels, it is understandable that people might be excited at the prospect of a movie or Disney+ series dedicated to telling the story of The Knights Of Ren.
This so-called trailer has indeed appeared in a way that looks like somebody has secretly filmed it at some sort of event or presentation. However, on the face of it, it is easy to see why some people leaped straight in since this was a genuine leak of a secret Knights Of Ren project in development. I, for one, would absolutely love to see something live-action released focusing on The Knights Of Ren.
While watching the trailer, it doesn’t take long for suspicions to appear. The lead character of the Knights Of Ren is the one who looks like Nazgul from Lord Of The Rings. While the character looks incredibly cool, it does not seem to really have an authentic Star Wars vibe about it. Other elements feel more like a cut scene from a video game rather than a product of Lucasfilm’s film and special effects crew. Aside from Rogue One and Solo, no other projects to date have had the sub-title of "A Star Wars Story". All newly released and announced movies and series have not had the "A Star Wars Story" text associated with them at all, which again is another telling sign that this is more a fan-made effort than any leak of any genuine product.
Much as I would love to believe otherwise, it would appear that this leaked video is nothing more than a very well-made fan creation that has been put together in such a way that it had a level of credibility that would get the fans talking. I have to say a big well done on that front as it has certainly done that. Sadly this is not evident that Disney/Lucasfilm has any sort of Knights Of Ren project in the works. Who knows, though, it might give them food for thought?
