'Doctor Who' Unveils First Look At Jonathan Groff's Character In Upcoming New Season
New pictures of Jonathan Groff’s (Frozen, Mindhunter, Glee) mysterious character in Doctor Who’s fourteenth season have been released, also starring Ncuti Gatwa as the fifteenth Doctor. It was only announced a week ago that the Broadway regular would be stepping into the TARDIS and we are already getting hints as to what type of role he may be playing in the episodes, due to be aired at Christmas.
Groff appears in dapper Victorian clothing along with the Doctor and his assistant Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) and is reported to be named Tabby McTat. Interestingly, the Whovian short story, The Legacy of Gallifrey by Gary Russell talks about super-intelligent cats with grand names. Although Groff’s name might sound cat-like, he doesn’t look feline in nature. Still, it could be a good place for fans to start to look for clues as to the themes and monsters of the series.

The pictures suggest that Doctor Who is returning to Victorian England, a period that has been well-visited by the Time Lord. Fans will be on the lookout for familiar faces such as Henry Gordon Jago, The Paternoster Gang, Victoria Waterfield, and of course, Clara Oswald.
Doctor Who is free to stream on BBC iPlayer (UK only) or for an additional cost on Amazon Prime in other territories.
