Disney Layoffs Affect All Levels Of The Company, From Execs To D23
Disney employees from top to bottom are feeling the pain as the company prepares to lay off 4,000 employees. No one is immune as Disney cuts CEOs and D23 employees as well. One notable employee to depart is Nate Silver, a data guru for ABC’S FiveThirtyEight. Russell Wolf and another veteran from ESPN will be leaving the company in July. However, Disney has confirmed that the layoffs won’t affect hourly employees at the parks, so those workers can breathe a sigh of relief.
Part of the reason for the layoffs is the company downsizing and consolidating branches. Freeform merged development with current, resulting in the departure of Senior Vice President Julie Jarmon. ABC followed suit by combining drama development and current with Stacey Adams leaving.

In addition to D23, ABC, Freeform, ABC Signature, 20th Television, Disney+, ESPN, Disney Branded Entertainment, Hulu, Disney TV Animation, Walt Disney Television Alternative, and Searchlight have all been hit with layoffs. Disney assured that the layoffs will be complete by summer, but with the looming writers’ strike, it may be a while before the company or its remaining employees can relax.
