Fans of the Indiana Jones franchise can start getting excited now! According to Variety, Disney and LucasFilm want a writer to start working on a Disney+ original series set in the Indiana Jones universe. However, according to Variety’s sources, they have no one currently attached to the project, so no plot details are available.

This is an interesting and exciting development after Harrison Ford announced that he was done playing the character after the upcoming fifth film that is set to release sometime next year. Disney+ has shown its skillset by creating original series based on and within central cinematic universes. So far, the streaming platform has created fan favorites like The MandalorianAndor, and Tales of the Jedi, which are based in the Star Wars universe. They have also given fans more Marvel content with shows like LokiShe-Hulk, and WandaVision

It will be interesting to see if this new series will be a prequel or if it will act as a spin-off of the franchise. The film franchise has gotten serial treatment before. In the 90s, ABC aired two seasons of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles and four TV specials on their sister channel, The Family Channel, now known as Freeform. The franchise was a box office success, bringing in nearly $1.3 billion worldwide.
