You heard that right. Disney+ has recently ordered a pilot for an adaptation of the Louis Sachar novel Holes. Already, we have several credits for the pilot. Alina Mankin is serving as a writer, while Liz Phang is serving as a showrunner. Both of them are executive producing, alongside Drew Goddard, Sarah Esberg, Mike Medavoy, and Andrea Massaro. The production companies involved are Goddard Textiles, Walden Media, Shamrock, and 20th Television. Walden Media was involved with the previous film adaptation and has been trying to get a television adaptation of the book off the ground for several years now, so their involvement was expected.

Louis Sachar’s novel is about Stanley Yelnats, an unlucky boy who is wrongfully incarcerated at a juvenile detention camp called Green Lake. There, he is forced to dig holes near the dry lake bed. He bonds with the other prisoners and soon discovers a connection with the camp and his family history. The book had been previously adapted into a 2003 live-action film by Walden Media and Walt Disney Pictures, so you can view this upcoming pilot as a sort of remake of the old film. Will it lead to a series, or be forgotten? Only time will tell
