Disney Drops 'Hawkeye' Show Trailer

Hawkeye appears to be the next show on the MCU Disney+ roadmap, and fans have been skeptical, to say the least. While Hawkeye has never had a particularly huge following from MCU fans, that may change soon, because Marvel and Disney just released the trailer for the series on Monday, and it looks good. If anyone was on the fence about the show, the trailer just might tip the scale. Not only does it show off what is in store for Hawkeye in the show, but it is also chock-full of Easter eggs, references, possible villains, and Christmas cheer.

Like most Marvel projects in recent years, the specific details of the Hawkeye series were kept hidden. The only real detail that was known was Kate Bishop would be a part of the series in some form, and it would draw inspiration from Matt Fraction and David Aja’s comic run on Hawkeye. The trailer shows off this and so much more.

The trailer shows Hawkeye reunited with his family after the events of Infinity War and Endgame, trying to make up for literally lost time, and he does this by trying to give his kids an amazing Christmas. Not to mention that he takes them to see the best musical on Broadway, Rogers: The Musical! Anyway, we also get our first look at Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop, who appears to be a huge fan of the arrow-shooting Avenger and has taken up Hawkeye’s “Ronin” mantle post-Endgame. However, it looks like the criminal underworld that Hawkeye preyed upon during the “Blip” have returned and are after the new “Hawkeye.”

Now it looks like both Hawkeyes are going to have to try to escape New York while being hunted by the criminal underworld and making it back home before Christmas. People have already pointed out the similarities with Die Hard, and honestly, I will take Marvel Die Hard any day of the year. The trailer also gives us our first look at Vera Farmiga’s Eleanor Bishop (Kate’s mom), whom some fans have speculated may also be portraying the villainous Madame Mask from the comics. Perhaps most importantly, the trailer also gives us a look at one of Hawkeye’s faithful companions Lucky the Pizza Dog. Lucky originally belonged to the Tracksuit Mafia, who can also be spotted several times in the trailer, but was adopted by Clint after Lucky was injured.

The other big takeaway from the trailer, which is shown but not discussed, is the inclusion of Hawkeye’s hearing aides. In the comics, Hawkeye loses a great deal of his hearing, becoming 80% deaf and then later becoming completely deaf. He eventually learns sign language, how to read people’s lips, and also regains some of his hearing back thanks to Stark-tech. However, this is something that has yet to be mentioned in the MCU, and Clint’s hearing was perfect during Endgame, which was the last time we saw him. It seems like we may see him lose his hearing at some point in the series if not at the beginning. Some fans have even speculated that this may be a result of an attack by Yelena Belova as was hinted at the end of Black Widow, but she is not shown or mentioned in the trailers.

Hawkeye looks super cool! People may not have had their expectations super high for this one, but honestly, I think it is time Hawkeye had the spotlight. I am super excited to see Hailee Steinfeld as Kate Bishop. It also seems like a festive holiday Marvel series, which Marvel hasn’t really attempted before. If Hawkeye’s only competition for the “Best Marvel Christmas” is Iron Man 3, I think Hawkeye has this one in the bag or quiver. Marvel has a pretty good track record with their Disney+ shows so far, and this looks like a super fun holiday romp. Hawkeye is shooting onto Disney+ on November 24, just in time for the holidays!
