The Spider-Man intellectual property has been in contention for as long as fans can remember; and while Disney and Sony have managed to find common ground with recent blockbusters such as Tom Holland's Spider-Man trilogy, there are still a myriad of characters who find themselves between the proverbial rock and hard place.

2015 marked a pivotal point wherein Disney and Sony agreed on a landmark deal that would have them cooperating in order to introduce Spider-Man into the MCU. The first project from this deal would first be seen in 2016's Captain America: Civil War, where Tom Holland's Spider-Man was first teased in a trailer.

Three blockbusters later, the 2015 deal has proven to be quite the successful venture by the two media companies, even leading to speculation about Tom Holland's Spider-Man appearing in an unannounced MCU.

Despite this, it has been recently revealed that two fan-favorite Spider-Man characters still find themselves co-owned by Disney and Sony.

Wilson Fisk or Kingpin, is one of these characters. While famously a Spider-Man villain, Kingpin is Daredevil's nemesis, thanks in part to Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal over 3 seasons of the Netflix hit. He has since become a recurring character in the Disney Plus show Hawkeye; and while rights are different for animation projects than live-action films, it's noteworthy that Sony made Kingpin the main antagonist for its animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Seeing how the character has become a fan favorite, it's safe to assume the crime boss will continue to be one of Marvel Studios' A-tier villains.

While Jessica Drew, Marvel's first Spider-Woman, is no stranger to the small screen (having appeared in Marvel's first animated series in 1979) she hasn't had her live-action debut. Olivia Wilde's name has come up in rumours as a potential casting but no concrete evidence points to which studio will be handling this project. Sony though is laying its claim on the character, already confirming one of the characters appearing in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is Jessica Drew, to be played by actress Issa Rae. Another item worth noting is Jessica Drew seems to be missing from the line-up of Spider-Man characters in Sony's Madame Web movie. For now, only theories and speculations float around in regard to the character.

The Disney and Sony relationship seems to benefit both. Fans only hope they continue to play nice.
