Directors Confirmed For Marvel's Next Series 'Secret Invasion?’

After dominating the Box Office for the last 13 years, Marvel Studios continues to move from strength to strength and shows no signs of slowing down. Following the success of their movies, they have now branched further into the realms of TV.

Although the latest TV shows are not the first to be made by Marvel, as we have had many Marvel shows before such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, etc. and those shows do have a loyal fanbases, it's safe to say they never quite reached the success and hype of the more recent ones. Following a string of successful shows including WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Marvel are determined to keep going with the upcoming Loki, due for release in just a few short weeks, as well as confirming many more shows to come. One of which is Secret Invasion.

Veteran MCU actor Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role of Nick Fury, with Ben Mendelsohn also reprising his role as the Skrull Talos. Other cast members confirmed so far are Olivia Coleman, Emilia Clarke, and Kingsely Ben-Adir. However, we had no idea who would be picking up directing duties...until now, it seems.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Thomas Bezucha and Ali Selim have been tapped to be the ones to take on the role of directing the show. Bezucha helmed last year's crime thriller Let Him Go, and Selim is known for his work on the Hulu series The Looming Tower, a drama based on the events of 9/11.

Although Marvel have remained relatively tight-lipped about the plot of the show (When are they never?), it's very likely the show will have much inspiration from the Secret Invasion storyline from the Marvel comics. In this arc, we learn that a lot of Earth's superheroes have been replaced by the alien race and shapeshifters, the Skrulls, years prior to the events of the story in preparation for the invasion of Earth. The end of this arc sees a final battle take place between the leader of the Skrulls, Veranke, and the Avengers in New York City. Thanks to combined strength of the Avengers, they win the battle, with Daredevil villain Bullseye being the one to take out Veranke in the end.

The events of this storyline led to a few major moments in the comics, specifically Norman Osborne a.k.a The Green Goblin being made Director of H.A.M.M.E.R., the replacement of S.H.I.E.L.D. and forming a new secret group of villains comprised of himself, Emma Frost, Namor, Doctor Doom, The Hood, and Loki, leading to the Dark Reign storyline.

Further evidence pointing to the potential plot of Secret Invasion comes from the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, which reveals Nick Fury is working with the Skrulls already and that his presence throughout the film was actually a Skrull in disguise.

Fans will continue to speculate, as they always do, about what direction the new show will take. Hopefully, we will get some further information in the coming months and, as always, we will bring you the updates as and when they happen.

Until next time!
