Warner Bros. Discovery is adding an interesting new feature to its streaming platform Max. A news broadcast that will stream 24/7 is coming to the platform on September 27. The channel will be titled CNN Max. The addition of this will be of no extra cost to subscribers while in the beta phase.

CNN Max will be a source of breaking news for its host platform, something Max has been lacking in this format. President and CEO of Discovery Streaming & International JB Perrette described the upcoming addition, explaining, “This provides even more quality choices for Max customers who will be able to easily catch up on what is happening in the world, particularly in moments of breaking news, all within one seamless experience.”

A CNN streaming platform such as this may sound familiar, here’s a bit of context. The company attempted to launch its own, titled CNN+, in the first half of 2022. CNN+ was short-lived, dispersing to the primary CNN network or on other portions of the Warner Bros. Discovery merger, now known as Max. According to CNBC, CNN+ had “fewer than 10,000 daily active viewers in the two weeks after its launch.” When the shutdown occurred, employees of CNN+ were reportedly not immediately abandoned.

Chris Licht, who no longer works for the company, said at the time that employees would be absorbed into a different part of the company or would receive at least six months of severance pay. It was an overall tough situation that was riddled with a lack of communication; some of those communication issues were reportedly due to legal barriers.
