Despite Busy Week, Simu Liu Talks About The Future Of 'Shang-Chi' And The 'Avengers'
While at the premiere of Arthur the King in New York City, Simu Liu was interviewed by ComicBook.com about his place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Having portrayed the titular character of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Liu has yet to return to the MCU despite the strong positive reception of the character and the film.
“Oh man, I don’t know to be honest. I mean, those things are so above my pay grade. I just wanna continue to be a fan of it. You know, when I get a call of like, ‘Hey, this is what you’re in for and this is where you’re going to show up. And, this is when you’re going to be need to be blacked out for.’ That’s kind of generally what tends to happen.”
Lui also praised director Destin Daniel Cretton on his work on the first Shang-Chi film, and gratitude that he will be returning for the sequel. “But, you know Destin is such a special filmmaker and we’re very happy to have him on the sequel. So, he’ll be working on that and we’re really excited to see what he comes up with. I think he’s going to do a brilliant job.”
When the film was released in 2021, Kevin Feige said to the early reactions,
“We know the movie’s working when it’s not just the title character that people ask about, but it is the co-stars or the supporting players that people ask about. And in this movie in particular that’s heartening because we think they’re spectacular, and we think they have great potential in the future.”
Aside from the Shang-Chi sequel, it is unknown at present what that future holds for Simu Liu and his co-stars. For the MCU, that future includes Deadpool & Wolverine coming to theatres this July, and the Fantastic Four film that will be the start of Phase Six.
