David Warner

Perennial genre actor David Warner passed away at the age of 80 due to cancer-related illness on Sunday, July 24 at his home in London, England. The news came as a surprise to most. His family made the following statement to BBC:

“Over the past 18 months he approached his diagnosis with a characteristic grace and dignity. He will be missed hugely by us, his family, and friends, and remembered as a kind-hearted, generous, and compassionate man, partner, and father, whose legacy of extraordinary work has touched the lives of so many over the years. We are heartbroken.”

Warner had been in many great genre films over his career with over 228 appearances. He was known for classic roles like Jack the Ripper in Time After Time, Jennings in The Omen, Master Control Program in Tron, Chancellor Gorkon in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and recently Doctor Abraham Van Helsing in Penny Dreadful. He was also famously the interrogator Cardassian in a quintessential episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation.

In addition to his acting roles, Warner had numerous voiceover roles. He lent his unique tone to great series like Batman: The Animated Series, Gargoyles, Spider-Man, and a good collection of video games.

He is survived by his son Luke, daughter-in-law Sarah, and his partner Lisa Bowerman.
