‘Daredevil’ To Return on Disney+

It’s been 4 years since Charlie Cox’s last official appearance as The Man Without Fear. Fans of the Netflix series have since been dying to see Daredevil’s return.

With Matt Murdock’s brief appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home, along with vincent D'onofrio’s Kingpin making a surprising cameo in Hawkeye on Disney+, rumors had spun all throughout the Marvel fandom community about when and where the series would, at some point, make its official return.

That moment is finally here. Featured in a report by Variety, a new Daredevil TV series is officially confirmed to be beginning production on Disney+. The series has Covert Affairs co-creators Matt Corman and Chris Ord slated to write and executive produce.

Marvel has yet to make an announcement about how far along the show is in development, nor have they made any comments about where the series will fit in the continuity. It is also uncertain if this Daredevil is a reboot, an original, or a surprising fourth-season continuation of the highly acclaimed Netflix series.

To the elation of many Marvel fans, Charlie Cox is still heavily rumored to be taking on the helm of the titular character once again. The actor’s anticipated return in the Marvel fan community has been noted by Executive Producer, Kevin Feige. Who said, in an exclusive interview with CinemaBlend back in December:

“If you were to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil. Where we see that, how we see that, when we see that, remains to be seen.”

Regarding the rights to the characters, as reported by Variety, due to a 2-year Marvel-Netflix clause on Netflix’s original deal with Marvel, none of the Marvel-Netflix TV show characters were allowed to make any appearances in any non-Netflix-related material.

But with the rights back at Disney, along with the pandemic slowdown of 2020, it’s evident how much Disney+ is trying to introduce new Marvel superheroes onto its platform. The past few months have showcased more details on Kate Bishop, Yelena Belova, and Moon Knight. This summer will also showcase the arrival of both She-Hulk along with Kamala Khan as Ms. Marvel.

As for Corman and Ord, the duo’s creation of the USA Network’s Covert Affairs became a longstanding series that lasted for a whopping five seasons. It featured actors Piper Perabo and Christopher Gorham and had for all intents and purposes, a surprisingly decent following. Corman and Ord have also written for the series The Enemy Within, The Brave, and Containment

Though Netflix has lost the rights to all of its Marvel-related intellectual properties, the original Daredevil TV series is now available for streaming on Disney+ right now.
