As has been the trend for years now Disney has been reimagining classic animated movies through live-action adaptations. To date, Disney animated classics such as Alice in Wonderland, Sleeping Beauty, Beauty & The Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Dumbo, and The Little Mermaid have made the transition to live-action films, albeit with mixed results. The animated Disney classic Hercules, released in 1997, starring Tate Donovan, Susan Egan, Rip Torn, James Woods, and, most notably, Danny DeVito, appears to be the next film slated to make the jump from animation to live-action.

Additionally, according to an Instagram post by Popbuzz, DisInsider has revealed that Danny DeVito, the Centaur named Phil from the original animated film who helped train Hercules to become a hero, is expected to reprise his role in the live-action film. Danny DeVito previously appeared in the live-action version of Dumbo.

The post further states that Guy Ritchie will be directing the live-action film which is described as “a musical inspired by social media,” although it is not made clear what that means exactly in the post. Neither the release date nor the format has been announced, although Guy Ritchie wants to film it within the upcoming year. As to the release format, it is expected to be released theatrically as opposed to streaming-only on Disney+, as some live-action remakes such as Lady and the Tramp and Pinocchio have previously been.
