Daisy Ridley Finally Clarified The Spider-Woman Rumors After Reports Swirled

When Daisy Ridley was cast in the role of Rey in the Star Wars sequel trilogy (The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi, The Rise of Skywalker) from Disney and Lucasfilm, she was thrust into the mainstream limelight in terms of her acting career. With other acting jobs in between the films (Peter Rabbit, Midnight on the Orient Express, Chaos Walking), she was able to avoid typecasting to the best of her ability. And since she is done with the Star Wars franchise for the time being, like every actor/actress out there, she is anticipating the next move for her acting career.

Some fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and comic book movies entirely are hoping Daisy will take on the role of Jessica Drew in a potential Spider-Woman film being developed by Olivia Wilde and Sony. Recently, Ridley appeared to show interest, causing so many fans to believe she was is in the running for the role. However, Ridley has set the record straight regarding the Spider-Woman rumors.

“Well, it's funny because someone asked me off the cuff about the Spider-Woman rumors recently, and I went, 'Oh, that sounds great.' Apparently, I've now declared myself a frontrunner to be Spider-Woman which isn't true! It's funny because I don't really choose things...I [didn't] set out to do another 'big film.' I just read the [Chaos Walking] script, loved it, and loved the idea of it.”

“Basically, should something come along and be great, of course I'd be open to anything. I just finished WandaVision. What they did with it is so amazing and different and interesting. To be particularly in that world, which is ever shifting and reimagining itself would be very exciting.”

Daisy Ridley would be a  pretty good choice for Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman, and a great addition to the MCU as a whole. As of right now, the whole Spider-Woman film development is very early and there is no official casting announced, and of course Sony and Marvel Studios have to get the rest of their Spider-Man/MCU content released into theaters or Disney+ because of the COVID-19 pandemic delaying various project releases.

Headline a character in the most popular franchise out there with the Marvel Cinematic Universe (even if it’s an extension from Sony since they own the Spider-Man film rights currently) and possibly anchoring an ensemble, Ridley does find it a bit daunting. The whole situation comes from watching the Spider-Man fandom surrounding her Chaos Walking co-star, Tom Holland. Disney would be just fine if they gave Ridley her own Marvel franchise, like how she carried the last trilogy in the Skywalker saga.

Daisy Ridley is also a Disney alumnus, so Marvel is definitely aware of her and could reach out to her at some point when ready. Keep in mind that Oscar Issac, who played Poe Dameron in the recent Star Wars trilogy, was cast as the superhero Moon Knight for the upcoming Disney+ series of the same name. So anything is possible. Of course, we’ll just have to wait and see how the situation evolves before we film nerds get too excited about Ridley rubbing shoulders with the Avengers and others within the MCU.
