Check Out This Never Before Seen Footage From 'Star Wars 1313'

It has been ages since the cancellation of Star Wars 1313, but that doesn’t mean that it doesn't still fascinate us. Far from it, canceled games can be a major source of information on all sorts of things related to game development and “what could have been.” It gives us an insight into the world of video game development, and it gives us another insight into the minds of the creators. If we just forgot about every game that got canceled, we would forget about things in the video game industry that no one would be privy to. Like, for instance, an appearance from one of the more famous characters in the entire franchise, one who inspired an entire Disney+ series about him. We are, of course, talking about Boba Fett, and some new footage has just surfaced linking him to this game. Read on to find out more.

Before we begin, we should probably talk about what Star Wars 1313 was, and what happened to it that caused it to be canceled. Star Wars 1313 was an action-adventure game under development at LucasArts. It was to have featured Boba Fett as a young adult, navigating the sub-level Coruscant district, Level 1313, it’s own hive of scum and villainy. 1313 was to have featured a more mature, gritty direction compared to previous Star Wars games, and would have been similar to Star Wars: Bounty Hunter in its combat system. However, following the purchase of LucasFilm by The Walt Disney Company, the game was put on hold, with no news coming in years, and with LucasArts being reduced to a licenser, the game is canceled as far as we’re concerned. This became one of the more infamous moments of the Disney buyout, not the least of which because it led to EA getting the license to make Star Wars games, releasing a mixed-bag of titles with more than one controversy.

So, what does this new footage show? Well if you’re expecting some action from Boba Fett and a tour around a grittier area of Coruscant, you certainly won’t be disappointed;

This new footage, posted by YouTuber, The Vault, shows Boba walking through a seedy market in the underworld. Clearly the developers of this game paid careful attention to the world-building aspect of any good game. Citizens are scattered about, minding their own business, before he meets his target. Pushing aside a civilian, the game then transitions to a chase scene as Boba Fett rushes to complete his bounty. It seems a bit like Star Wars: Bounty Hunter and a bit like Naughty Dog’s Uncharted, though from what build this footage is from, we may never know. Still, it’s always a pleasure to see footage from older or canceled games, like that leaked build of Dinosaur Planet/Star Fox Adventures we saw last year, and to get another taste into what could have been for the Star Wars saga.

Of course, one can only imagine what the rest of the game could have been like. Who knows, we may actually see a full build of the game leaked sometime in the future. Are there any other Star Wars games you’d like to see some unused footage of? And what do you think 1313 would have been like, had it not been canceled. With that; may the Force be with you.
