CD Projekt Red Announces A Remake Of The First 'Witcher' Game
Almost 15 years after its first release, CD Projekt Red, the Polish studio behind Cyberpunk 2077, recently announced the remake of the first The Witcher game. According to the studio, the game, codenamed “Canis Majoris”, is in its early stages of development and is being rebuilt from the ground up by the Polish studio Fool’s Theory using the 3D engine Unreal Engine 5.
As of now, the studio asks for patience as they fully understand how important the franchise is to the fans and thus want the final product to be of high quality. To reassure us, Adam Badowski, the Head of CD Projekt Red speaks of the collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory, to whom they will be providing full creative supervision: “Collaborating with Fool’s Theory on the project is just as exciting, as some of the people there have been previously involved in The Witcher games. They know the source material well, they know how much gamers have been looking forward to seeing the remake happen, and they know how to make incredible and ambitious games. And although it will take some time before we’re ready to share more about and from the game, I know it’ll be worth the wait.”
For those who don’t know, The Witcher is a fantasy series created by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. It’s a story that takes place in a medieval fantasy world and follows Geralt of Rivia, a traveling monster hunter also known as a Witcher. While the Netflix series The Witcher, starring Henry Cavill as Geralt, is based on the book material, the stories of the games take place after the events of the main saga.
