Cast Announced For 'The Lord Of The Rings' Musical

Musicals and plays based on huge franchises are nothing new. The most recent one is Harry Potter And The Cursed Child. While this one was based on a script, it was later adapted into a play in both London and New York.
It seems The Lord Of The Rings can be added to the theater genre as well, as a new production, based on the 2006 musical and the works by J.R.R. Tolkien has announced its cast.

The production will be performed at the Watermill Theater in Newbury and will run from July 25 to October 15. The immersive staging will take place in both the theater and the gardens and will be directed by Paul Hart, with a design by Simon Kenny.
Audiences will get to join an ensemble cast and large-scale puppets that will help tell the story of the power of friendship and the common good.
The company for The Lord Of The Rings includes Folarin Akinmade as Gimli, Matthew Bugg as Golllum, Reece Causton in the ensemble, Kelly Coughlin in the ensemble, Geraint Downing as Merry, Peter Dukes as Boromir, Amelia Gabriel as Pippin, Tom Giles as Elrond/Saruman, Charlotte Grayson as Rosie, Nuwan Hugh Perera as Sam, Bridget Lappin as the ensemble dance captain, Georgia Louise as Galadriel, Elliot Mackenzie in the ensemble, Peter Marinker as Gandalf, Louis Maskell as Frodo, Aoife O’Dea as Arwen, John O’Mahony as Bilbo, Yazdan Qafouri as Legolas, Sioned Saunders as the on-stage music director in the ensemble and Aaron Sidwell as Aragorn.

The performance held on September 22nd, Bilbo Baggin’s actual birthday will feature a celebration in the gardens before the show.
The Lord Of The Rings originally debuted in 2006 at Toronto’s Princess Of Wales Theater. It was a three-and-a-half-hour long production, done in three acts, that had a cast of 65 actors.
It then transferred to the West End and closed in 2008. It ended up being one of the biggest commercial failures for the West End at the time. A revival was originally announced in 2015 that featured a world tour but never materialized.
