'Captain America 4' Officially Confirmed To Be In Development
***Warning - May contain The Falcon and the Winter Soldier Finale Spoilers***
Well folks, it seems Marvel and company aren't showing any signs of slowing down anytime soon. Within mere hours of the finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier airing, it was announced via The Holloywood Reporter that a new solo Captain America film is in the works.
Not only that, it was also confirmed that creator and head writer of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Mark Spellman, will be the one to take on writing the script. He will apparently be aided with the script by Dalan Musson, who also wrote for the recently finished TV series.
This potentially tells us two things. One, the story of the film will likely be a continuation of the TV show and hopefully pick up where it left off. This leads us to number two: it's likely that Anthony Mackie will return to take up the mantle of Cap, following the TV show finale.
Although, at this point, only the film itself has been greenlight. There is no director known to be attached and no casting has been announced. As with everything, Marvel are keeping their cards very close to their chests.
It seems like a no-brainer to have it feature Sam Wilson taking over as the new Captain America. However, the series did also give writers a lot to work with, and there are now many possibilities it could explore. For all we know, it could be another Chris Evans-fronted film or even one focusing on Isaiah Bradley back in the day. Now that he has officially been brought into the MCU canon, it could have been a nice little teaser as to what the fourth film could be about.
Despite Evans seemingly hanging up the shield for good at the end of Avengers: Endgame, there are still numerous ways in which he can return. It's also worth highlighting that there have been rumors over the last few months of him discussing a new deal with Marvel/Disney, and, as we've seen many times before throughout the MCU, just because a character gets old or even dies, doesn't mean they can't return (*cough* Loki *cough*). It also remains to be seen as to whether or not Sebastian Stan will return as Bucky.
No matter what happens, I think it's safe to say the new movie will be in good hands with Spellman and Musson. They seem to understand the characters and the mythology surrounding them, whilst also making it believable and something which could happen in our modern world. Musson was also credited as writer for the fifth episode, "Hush," which is considered one of the strongest of the show's installments.
At this very early stage, it's anyone's guess as to what the new film will focus on, but I know fans would love to see a big screen adaption of Sam and Bucky together, especially since it seems Sam will finally embrace the role Steve thought he was worthy of.
As always, we shall keep you posted as new information develops.
Until next time!
