'Book Of Boba Fett' Episode 5 Included Random Call Back To 'Star Wars' Original Trilogy

Minor spoilers for 'The Book of Boba Fett' Episode 5 ahead

Chapter 5 of The Book of Boba Fett is out, and it’s call back time! As the title suggests, The Return of The Mandalorian sees the long awaited return of Din Djarin, ahead of his next season on Disney+. We also got to see the return of Peli Motto, the Tatooine mechanic. They are far bigger call backs than what we will be talking about.

The first major call back we see is the N-1 Starfighter, a signature ship of the Royal Naboo Security Forces from The Phantom Menace. This fighter model played a huge role in the climactic Battle of Naboo, where waves of them were sent flying out to destroy the Trade Federation’s control ship, including the one flown by a young Anakin Skywalker, who destroyed it. Seeing the N-1 again reminds the viewers of this climactic sequence which, in spite of the film's flaws, served as a good sequence to end Phantom Menace and served as a reference to the Death Star sequence without copying it, as some felt the Starkiller did.

But that's not what we’re really here for either. As part of their building of the N-1, Mando and Peli look for a "cryogenic density combustion booster." Most viewers watching would probably think, “what’s that?” Well it turns out to have been something we’ve seen before, but we didn’t know what it was, or what it did at the time. Despite that, it was there at the very beginning of the saga, back when the saga was a single film. If you’re still confused, maybe this tweet will help clear some things up;

That’s right, it’s the rod Han Solo used to prop the trash compactor apart during that famous scene from Episode IV: A New Hope. It’s surprising to see such a minor object get a call back, but it’s nice to see a reference to the film that started it all. Plus, now we know what it is, and what it does, which should answer a few questions at the very least. As such, we can safely say that this episode of The Book of Boba Fett rhymes with the rest of the Skywalker Saga.

The cryogenic density combustion booster joins a host of other OT callbacks occurring in The Book of Boba Fett. This list is perhaps highlighted by the return of 8D8, the smelter droid that was seen in Jabba's Palace in Return of the Jedi. Expertly voiced by Matt Berry, the droid has served as an excellent, grittier stand-in for some of the more polished, proper protocol droids seen across the Star Wars galaxy.

Various other elements from the Star Wars franchise receive callbacks in the show, with fans clamoring to uncover every one. This speaks to one of the best parts of being a Star Wars fan, being able to share all kinds of Easter Eggs, references, callbacks and returning characters with the fanbase and community.

Well, once again, the time has come for us to leave for newer articles. Thanks for reading, and we hope you have a good day. This is Ian Smith of Culture Slate, wishing everyone good luck and a good rest of the week. May the Force be with you.
