'Barbie' Continues To Dominate At The Box Office, Crosses $1 Billion
The Barbie movie now has grossed over 1 billion dollars worldwide. To put the achievement in perspective, only 53 movies in the history of cinema have managed to rake in this much dough. It’s the first with a female director, and Greta Gerwig’s creation hit the milestone quicker than any other Warner Bros movie. Barbie has topped big franchises like Harry Potter and The Fast and The Furious. Warner Bros and DC have had some epic flops in 2023. Shazam! Fury of the Gods and The Flash lost 245 million between them. The studio desperately needed a win.
Barbie has gone viral. Businesses are clamoring for tie-ins, and other movies are using Barbie in cross-promotions. Pink has become the new in-season color. The marketing team couldn’t have done a better job if they tried. And it’s all translated to the box office as everyone who didn’t see the movie initially, now wants to know what all the fuss is about.
It’s proof that movies ‘made by women for women’ are money-spinners. It’s hoped that this will encourage studios to hand more productions over to female filmmakers. Greta Gerwig is now the hottest property in Hollywood, and we can’t wait to see what she does next.
