Shazam: Fury of the Gods Now Filming!

Warner Bros and DC Films has recently ramped up production on several films for 2022 and 2023  like The Flash, Black Adam, and Aquaman 2 in addition to The Batman finally entering post production. The next film to hit the filming stage is Shazam: Fury of the Gods, the sequel to 2019’s Shazam, which was a huge critical success and did decent at the box office.

Plot details are unknown at the moment. However, the talented Zachery Levi is reprising the role of the title character, along with Asher Angel as Billy Batson, and the ensemble cast as the adoptive family team of brothers and sisters. The film will probably have new power levels, and of course new suits for the adult form. Always the best part of a superhero sequel!

With cameras rolling, director David F. Sanberg recently released an image to his Instagram account from the set with a red lightning emblem adorned on the side, along with the one-word caption: "Shazamcam."

Sandberg also responded to two comments on the platform about details of the production. One comment revealed that the team has "been filming [for] a few days," while another comment confirmed that Zachary Levi's lead character will be receiving an updated superhero suit for the sequel. Hopefully with less padding from the original.

Shazam!: Fury of the Gods might be two years away from hitting the theaters, but it is great to know that filming on the sequel has finally started. The cast will probably have a great time working on this film like the first time around, and I am sure the behind the scene featurettes will once again be a joy to watch.

In addition to the returning cast, Lucy Liu, and Oscar-winner Helen Mirren are also joining the ensemble.

Shazam!: Fury of the Gods will be released in theaters on June 2, 2023.
