How Leia And Han Will Finally Have The Wedding They Deserved

In everyone’s favorite galaxy far, far away we have all come to know and love the Star Wars’ three main characters Luke Skywalker, Leia Organa, and Han Solo. And while the newer series and movies are revealing just what our favorite trio has been up to since the fall of the Empire, there has been one burning question pointed towards the power couple Leia Organa and Han Solo. Did they or did they not ever officially get married? By now, all fans are well aware that they share a son, Ben Solo, who turned to the dark side and took the name Kylo Ren while serving the First Order. But were there ever any wedding bells? Well, we may soon see Leia and Han finally have the wedding that they deserve.

To be clear, this is not the first time that we see Leia and Han getting married in the Star Wars universe. It was first mentioned in Timothy Zahn's 1991 book Heir to the Empire. A more developed ceremony appeared in Dave Wolverton’s The Courtship of Princess Leia in 1994. However, ever since Disney has purchased the franchise, these stories have fallen into the world of Legends and are no longer considered canon. Disney is now releasing a canon story of our favorite couple officially tying the knot in The Princess and the Scoundrel written by Beth Revis. The story will take place shortly after Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi and will include the wedding ceremony and even parts of their honeymoon. When specifically asked about the wedding, this is what the author Beth Revis had to say:

“In all seriousness, though, what makes the wedding scene my favorite is the ring ceremony. The rings become an important symbol throughout the book — I’m being vague on purpose so I don’t spoil anything, but I think it’s true of all societies, whether they be on Earth or in a galaxy far, far away, that ceremonies become a necessary component of culture. We ascribe value to specific moments, and we bring up importance to symbols from those moments, including wedding rings. A wedding is like a bright star in a person’s life — a fixed point of light. And that’s true for Han and Leia as well.”

The author goes on to say that the first thing she did to prepare for the book was to go back and rewatch all of the original Star Wars movies. While writing the back and forth of Leia and Han she mentioned that she would turn to her own spouse to try out each piece of dialogue. She pointed out that “Bickering is Han and Leia’s love language, after all!”

Some fans may be surprised to hear that this is not Beth Revis' first time writing for Star Wars. In fact, she has written about some of the biggest Star Wars heroines in the franchise including Padme Amidala, Ahsoka Tano, and Jyn Erso. Fans will be eager to find out what Beth Revis has in store for Star Wars’ power couple Leia Organa and Han Solo.

In The Princess and the Scoundrel, the author Beth Revis promises everything from romance to action, and yes, even Ewoks. The newlyweds will face obstacles such as outwitting some remnant Imperial forces who are still clinging to power before being able to fly off to their happily ever after. The book is currently available for pre-order for kindle, audiobook, and hardcover. It will be released in the summer on August 16th, 2022.
