Anthony Daniels’ Reaction To ‘LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special' Is Hilarious!

As Star Wars has reached millions of fans across the galaxy, many people seem to like different films or series, or even comic books, novels, and video games. Fans even get into agreements and disagreement over which parts are the worst or the best, from those that always defend their favorite parts to those that claim any given films, series, comic books, novels, and video games that are not good. But there is one thing, and only one, that all Star Wars fans across the galaxy generally agree to be terrible. It is the Star Wars Holiday Special, which came out November 17, 1978.

Anthony Daniel, who has always been part of Star Wars as fan favorite droid C-3PO on all of the character's Star Wars film appearances, from the first film in 1977 to 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. And he has even appeared in the Star Wars Holiday Special. Disney+ is releasing the LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special, and Anthony Daniels recently revealed his reaction to the news of the project, which was just honest and hilarious.

“It was horror. It was, ‘Are you crazy? People are going to sue you for bringing up this title again because they’ve only just forgotten the first one 40 something years ago.' I was genuinely surprised that they would risk awakening those dreadful memories."

The Star Wars Holiday Special is a TV special that was aired on CBS on November 17, 1978. It was directed by Steve Binder and starred Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and James Earl Jones. The story that ties the special together is Chewbacca and Han Solo visiting the Wookiee home planet of Kashyyyk to celebrate Life Day. This TV special introduces three members of Chewbacca’s family: his father Itchy, his wife Malla, and his son Lumpy. This was the first onscreen Star Wars story, and it was set in between A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. It also marked Boba Fett’s first appearance. Notorious for its extremely negative reception, the Star Wars Holiday Special has an infamous reputation, as George Lucas ignored and mostly pretended it never happened, wanting to have his name off of it.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is very different from the original special from 1978. And to assure that The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special is very much a separate entity, he’s poking fun at the original. Anthony Daniels had a point by doing so, reminding people of how truly terrible the original was.

“And… I’m sorry I was just remembering the original, it was seriously bad. With all those Wookiees kind of grunting at each other… yeah, no translation…”

1978’s Star Wars Holiday Special has never been rebroadcast, nor has it been officially released on home video, becoming something of a cultural legend due to inferior quality from its existence. Bootleg copies have been circulated between fans, and we will probably never see it on Disney+.

The LEGO Star Wars Holiday Special comes out on Disney+ November 17, 2020, on the 42nd anniversary of the original special's broadcast.
