Agatha All Along has recently concluded with a two-part finale, and the bombshell events shook fans to their core. From reality-altering reveals to character development moments, a lot happened across the two episodes. In an interview with Variety, series creator Jac Schaeffer spoke about the finale and all it had to show. As this focuses on content from the finale, spoilers will be ahead.

A fair few plot twists were revealed in the end; the Witches’ Road, which Agatha and her group were traveling, wasn’t real until Billy Maximoff made it while searching for his twin, and “The Ballad of the Witches’ Road” was a made-up song with little true meaning.  According to Schaeffer, this plot twist was decided on “about a month into the writers’ room.” She continued, “Billy made the road, Agatha did, in fact, walk a road, but it was a real road in nature with her son, and he’s the one who came up with the “Ballad.” Agatha’s son was Nicholas Scratch, a boy who was born frail and died at a young age. Together, they would sing and con other witches to snatch their powers until Death came for him. Schaeffer stated, “She took the “Ballad” and turned it into a con.”

The physical turn of Agatha’s character took to a new level of otherworldliness. She betrays Billy but decides to kiss Death for power and almost immediately dies herself.  Schaeffer explained this decision, “We knew she would be a ghost from the very, very beginning of developing the show. It was always that we were going to end her as a ghost.” She can still interact with the world and help Billy as he searches for his twin. The showrunner continued, “I think when she is her best, she is a mentor… So the idea of her as a spirit guide for Billy seemed to be a lovely conclusion to this chapter of her life, while also launching us in a new direction.”

One major thing fans noted was the lack of a classic MCU project post-credit scene. This was not a choice made by Schaeffer, who clarified, “That’s a Marvel decision. I know nothing more than that.” While the showrunner had some ideas planned, she also clarified that it didn’t ultimately disrupt the show’s vision. The entirety of Agatha All Along is now available to stream on Disney+.
