Abby For Season Two Of 'The Last Of Us' Has Been Cast
The creators of the acclaimed HBO series The Last of Us, adapted from the apocalyptic video game series of the same name, have been casting for the series’ second season. Craig Mazin and Neal Druckman, the writers and executive producers of the series, have announced the casting of the character of Abby, who will join the surviving cast of characters established in the first season. The Last of Us series is set 20 years following the collapse of modern civilization caused by a global pandemic. The first season featured Joel, played by acclaimed actor Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), hired to smuggle a teenage girl, Ellie, portrayed by actress Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones), out of a harsh quarantine zone. The two survivors begin depending on each other for survival. The newest character, Abby, is described as a skilled soldier whose black-and-white view of the world will be challenged as she seeks vengeance for her loved ones.
The creators of the series have stated that, as with the first season of the show, they are looking for “world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material,” and, to that end, they have selected 27-year-old actress Kaitlyn Dever as their choice to portray Abby in their series. Kaitlyn already has several film and television credits, including Last Man Standing, Justified, Dopesick, Booksmart, and Rosaline. She has earned Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for her work in Unbelievable and Dopesick. She also executive produced No One Will Save You.
The first season of The Last of Us, which debuted this past year in 2023, was a huge hit with viewers and critics alike, and it has received multiple award nominations and has even already won eight Emmys at the Creative Arts Emmys. The second season, per IMDb.com, is not slated to debut on HBO’s streaming platform, Max, until sometime in 2025.
