A Teaser Trailer Has Been Released For The Upcoming 'Mufasa' Movie
Disney released the first trailer for Mufasa: The Lion King, a prequel to Jon Favreau’s 2019 The Lion King. The film stars Blue Ivy Carter in her theatrical debut as Kiara alongside her mother, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, who returns as Nala from the first film.
Prepare for a nostalgic journey as the beloved characters Timon and Pumbaa, voiced by the original cast members Billy Eichner and Seth Rogen, come back in the upcoming Mufasa movie. The cast includes the return of Donald Glover as Simba, Tiffany Boone as Sarabi, Kagiso Lediga as Young Rafiki, and Preston Nyman as Zazu.

Rest assured, the film's music is in capable hands. Lin-Manuel Miranda, known for his work on Hamilton, is back in the composer’s seat. “The Lion King has an incredible musical legacy with music from some of the greatest songwriters around, and I’m humbled and proud to be a part of it. It’s been a joy working alongside Barry Jenkins to bring Mufasa’s story to life, and we can’t wait for audiences to experience this film in theatres.”
However, as with anything on the internet, the director Barry Jenkins received criticism for being a brick within Bob Iger’s ‘wall,’ claiming the director is “too good” for the “soulless” House of Mouse. Jenkins responded on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “There is nothing soulless about The Lion King. For decades, children have sat in theatres all over the world, experiencing collective grief for the first time, engaging Shakespeare for the first time across aisles in myriad languages. A most potent vessel for communal empathy.”
Mark your calendars! Mufasa: The Lion King is set to roar into theatres on December 20 later this year.
