Peacock has confirmed that a revival of the popular television sitcom The Office is in the works, with Greg Daniels and Michael Koman handling the production. An official title has yet to be decided. However, the story is expected to be in the same vein as the original, sharing the world with Dunder Mifflin. The setting in the American adaptation of the British original was Scranton, Pennsylvania, where the team covered a paper company. This time, the documentary crew will observe a “dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters.”

NBCUniversal Entertainment President Lisa Katz said, “It’s been more than ten years since the final episode of The Office aired on NBC, and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and build new generations of fans on Peacock. In partnership with Universal Television and led by the creative team of Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, this new series set in the universe of Dunder Mifflin introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh setting ripe for comedic storytelling: a daily newspaper.” Other executive producers include Ricky Gervais, Stephen Merchant, Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.

Peacock announced that Domhnall Gleeson (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) and Sabrina Impacciatore (The White Lotus) have already been cast in the series, which is scheduled to begin production in July. It is unknown at this time what their specific roles in the newsroom will be. Peacock promises, however, that fans can expect to see an “ensemble cast” in what Daniels and Koman describe as a spinoff rather than a reboot of the series.
