A New Franchise Record Has Been Set By 'Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes'
The newest film in the Planet of the Apes franchise will be the longest one yet. Premiering in about a month, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will knock off War of the Planet of the Apes, which has been holding that title since 2017. Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be 145 minutes, just five minutes longer than the previous film. This longer runtime will allow more time to develop the narrative for the 20th Century Studios franchise as a whole, continuing the saga of intelligent apes trying to take control of the Earth.
Fast forwarding about 300 years from its predecessors, Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will feature Noa, a young ape, voiced by Owen Teague (It and The Stand). Noa meets a human named Mae, played by Freya Allan, known for her role as Cirilla in The Witcher. The movie is set in this far-off future where the apes have taken complete control of the world and the humans have regressed during the generations gone by. This is the first movie in what director Wes Ball hopes will become the next Planet of the Apes trilogy.
Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will be released on May 10, 2024, moved up from its originally planned May 24 premiere.
