A Live-Action 'Spider-Man Noir' Series Is In Development For Prime Video

Whether Spider-Man Noir makes more than silent cameo appearances in the next two Spider-Verse movies or not, it looks as if Sony’s very interested in keeping the character in the limelight. A Spider-Man Noir live-action series is in the works at Amazon.

This follows the announcement in November that the company had ordered several Sony/Marvel series, the first being Silk: Spider Society from Angela Kang.  It seems as if this series is the next to be identified from that crop. an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. Spider-Man Noir in Into the Spider-Verse was a Depression-era Nazi-punching private eye. In the comics, his spider bite came from one hidden inside a stolen artifact, causing him to have visions of a spider-god that actually administers the powers. Whichever way they go with the origin story, the man’s name won’t be Peter Parker. This makes sense. It doesn’t have to be a 1930s Peter Parker, he can go by any name. Peni isn’t Peter, neither is Gwen, and the version of Noir most are familiar with didn’t really get to see what made him a Peter Parker. And of course, by its very nature, especially with a different person under the mask, it’ll be its own universe.

Oren Uziel will serve as writer and executive producer, having developed the show with familiar Spider-Verse faces Amy Pascal, Phil Lord, and Christopher Miller, still part of the duo’s overall deal at the studio. Uziel worked on the screenplay for the romantic comedy The Lost City, with other writing credits including The Cloverfield Paradox, 22 Jump Street, and the new Mortal Kombat. He also had a hand in writing John Wick 4 and the Borderlands movie, still yet to be released. As for the animated Spider-Verse, Nicolas Cage revealed that Noir won’t be in Across the Spider-Verse, at least not to the extent of a speaking role, which also casts doubt on involvement in the follow-up, next year’s Beyond the Spider-Verse.
