A new behind-the-scenes video for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness shows an alternate version of a scene that would have featured Balder the Brave.

First appearing in an October 1962 comic book titled Journey Into Mystery #85, the Stan Lee and Jack Kirby character is one of the Norse Gods of Asgard and half-brother of Thor. In the comics, Balder was invulnerable to harm while in the Asgardian dimension. In The Multiverse of Madness, his brief cameo would have seen him killed by Wanda Maximoff during her raid of the Illuminati Headquarters.

The behind-the-scenes video shows a stand-in suited up as Balder lying on the floor in the aftermath of Maximoff’s attack. The person who was meant to play Balder was former James Bond star, Daniel Craig. Unfortunately, Craig had backed out from the cameo at the last minute owing to increased cases of COVID at the time of production. The scene was rewritten so that Black Bolt and Mr. Fantastic became the victims of the attack instead.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness features Benedict Cumberbatch as the titular Doctor Strange and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff. Directed by Sam Raimi, it is the eleventh installment of Phase Four of the MCU, following on from Doctor StrangeAvengers: Endgame, and WandaVision.
