New Production Notice Gives Details Of ‘Ahsoka’ Plot And Filming Start
Finally, we Star Wars fans can enjoy some new Star Wars content. I know last year we got The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions along with several comics and books. But show-wise, we were left a bit starved, compared to Marvel. Now we are two-thirds of the way into The Book of Boba Fett, and later this year we will hopefully be enjoying the likes of Andor, The Bad Batch Season 2, The Mandalorian Season 3, and of course, the long-awaited Obi-Wan Kenobi. 2022 is looking to be a great year for Star Wars fans.
But what of 2023? Well, that too should also be a good year for us fans as the Ahsoka series will be debuting on Disney+. While we do not know exactly when in 2023 it will drop, we do know now that the series has started the filming process in the production timeline. Here is a quick rundown: pre-production (writing, casting, location scouting, set designs/building), production (filming), and then post-production (editing, special effects, etc.)
A production listing was posted to r/StarWarsLeaks on Reddit over a week ago by an account under the name of u/timeandtimeagain2000. I am naturally wary of reports from Reddit. Like anyone could put something in there, claiming it to be real. However, the account does not come off as a burner nor a new account just for this post. This account has posted production listings for other projects as well, such as Meg 2 so it sat a bit better with me. (Side note: Please let Meg 2 be better than the last one. It was okay but could have been miles better. I'm not asking for JAWS. Just something good, like The Shallows good)
From the looks of it, shooting for Ahsoka is to begin shortly in Los Angeles, the same place where they have been shooting The Mandalorian. Most of what we can see here is common knowledge, especially when it comes to who is involved. However, the production listing also has a plot summary, giving a slight insight into the plot of the upcoming series. Again, it is something we fans have guessed at since The Mandalorian “Chapter 13: The Jedi” when Ahsoka asked the question, "Where is Grand Admiral Thrawn?"
It is natural to think that she is looking for Ezra Bridger. Remember that this show, The Book of Boba Fett, and The Mandalorian are going to come together in the end for a finale (Getting 2008 Doctor Who, Sarah Jane Adventures, and Torchwood flashbacks). These three shows will go against their BIG BAD, aka. Grand Admiral Thrawn.
It is also worth noting that The Hollywood Reporter recently announced that Mary Elizabeth Winstead (Scott Pilgrim vs. The World) would be joining the show. At this time, we do not know who she will be portraying as her character is being kept under wraps. Now some of you may be thinking, perhaps Sabine Wren? Well, it was previously reported that Natasha Liu Bordizzo "would" star as Sabine. Keyword there being “would” not “is.” It is not confirmed. It is possible. As a matter of fact, I can see both Natasha and Mary as Sabine.
I do also want to point out that the last sentence of the production notice refers to the shooting of The Mandalorian Season 3 wrapping up on March 23, 2022, which does line up with previous interviews. So if The Mandalorian Season 3 is to debut similar to Seasons 1 and 2 at the very end of October 2022, I think it is safe to assume that Ahsoka would debut in early 2023. If later, it would make sense for it to premiere on May 4th for Star Wars Day.
