'The Book of Boba Fett' Will Feature Never Before Seen Boba Fett Flashback Scene
We really know so little about Boba Fett, but he has been such a beloved character since The Empire Strikes Back, and his first ever appearance in Star Wars Holiday Special. Prior to Boba Fett’s re-introduction in the Mandalorian, he must have been up to something on Tatooine, or beyond. After all, he went from being slowly digested over a thousand years by the Sarlaac to fighting by Din Djarin’s side. In a recent interview with Rotten Tomatoes, the actor who portrays Boba Fett on screen, Temuera Morrison, stated that we are indeed going to see Boba Fett’s past in the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett.
This confirmation opens so many hopes and dreams for all the Star Wars fans, and more specifically Boba Fett fans out there. Boba Fett and Mandalorian lore has greatly evolved since we first saw the mysterious bounty hunter tasked with hunting down Han Solo. From video games like Knights of the Old Republic and multi-episode arcs in The Clone Wars, Star Wars aficionados have learned so much about the militant Mandalorian culture. Before his reappearance in The Mandalorian, we knew his reputation must have been exceptional to have earned the trust of Darth Vader and Jabba the Hutt. We saw demonstration of his skills as a bounty hunter when he tracked down the Millennium Falcon to Cloud City. A small glimpse of his upbringing by his father Jango Fett was shown in Attack of the Clones and The Clone Wars. Now in The Book of Boba Fett, we can get some answers.
First and foremost, how did Boba Fett get out of the Sarlaac? After Han Solo struck Boba Fett’s jetpack with a vibro-ax at the Great Pit of Carkoon in Return of the Jedi, sending Boba into the side of Jabba’s barge, and then down towards the Sarlaac, one would have thought that to be the end of Boba Fett. In true Star Wars, some favored villains seemed to have an “afterlife" of their own as seen with Darth Maul, Emperor Palpatine, and Anakin Skywalker’s Force ghost.
When we saw him again on Tatooine in The Mandalorian without his signature armor, many more questions crossed our mind. Did he always stay on Tatooine after escaping the Sarlaac? Did anyone help him escape or did he do it himself? How did the Jawas get Boba Fett’s armor that Cobb Vanth later acquired? We could see that Boba had been on Tatooine for a while to have had the resources to rescue and rehabilitate the dying Fennec Shand. His fighting skills did not look too rusty either. On Tython, he appeared very adept with his gaffi stick, which he must have picked up from the Tusken Raiders on Tatooine. It looked like he would have been able to challenge Cobb Vanth for his armor if he chose to, but he did not. Concrete answers to Boba Fett's backstory have not all been provided in the Mandalorian, and so many unknowns remain. Even so, the series had served as an excellent re-introduction to our beloved Boba Fett and a great set up to his future adventures in the upcoming The Book of Boba Fett.
Now, we just have to wait and see. Last we saw him, he was sitting on the old throne in Jabba’s Palace with Fennec Shand at his side. So many mysteries. So many possibilities still out there.
